Join RHSO for this FREE, family-friendly concert combining the important voices of the Harlem Renaissance. This reflective program will feature music of American musical icons – George Gershwin, Louis Armstrong, Aaron Copland, Duke Ellington, and the “Dean of African American Composers,” William Grant Still.
Come early and enjoy fun, kid-friendly activities in the lobby
along with a special pre-concert performance by Mink Violin Studio.

Dawn is a North Carolina-based performer, music educator, author and playwright. She enjoys collaborations that build bridges across cultures, languages, and generations. Her musical, The Gift Way Up in the Closet, premiered at the Fullwood Theater in Matthews, North Carolina in 2019, based on her children’s book of the same name and was honored with co-collaborator, S. Kristi Douglas to receive Best Short Play for Atlanta’s Black Theater festival in 2020. She has been a performer, vocal coach and teaching artist for over twenty years in the Charlotte area with own organization, DNAMuzic– which delves into the historical origins of the musical forms she presents to audiences within and beyond the classroom. In 2024, Dawn partnered with Ocie Davis to honor the centennial of Max Roach in Charlotte and for the Piedmont Jazz Alliance sharing the music of Max Roach’s partnership with Abbey Lincoln. Most recently, Dawn Anthony was honored by QC Metro’s “Great 28”, an annual selection of individuals impacting the Queen City with their work in the community and nominated for a 2024 WFAE EQUALibrium Award, celebrating her contributions and commitment to Arts & Culture and education within the Charlotte area. She is co-founder of the Carolina Social Music Club with co-collaborator and author Greg Jarrell. She is thrilled to share this musical experience of the 1920’s Jazz Age and the Harlem Renaissance with the Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra!
