Rock Hill Symphony Education: Adventures in Classical Music

Each year, the Rock Hill Symphony Orchestra presents our educational concert series Adventures in Classical Music. The series is comprised of a free concert for families followed by a concert for students in Rock Hill Schools, which is correlated with SC Curriculum Standards for Music. The goal of the series is to familiarize audience members with the various instrument families: strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion, and how composers throughout the centuries have used sound to communicate beauty and meaning through orchestral music. In the history of Western music, the evolution of the modern symphony orchestra can be seen as the apotheosis of development in instrumental music, and the composer’s ultimate tool of musical expression and communication through which symphonic music continues to find relevance for listeners everywhere.

“Music can change the world.” ~ Beethoven
