Victor Wang, Flute
The RHSO joins in celebrating America’s 250th birthday with iconic works by Samuel Barber (“Adagio for Strings”) and Aaron Copland (“Billy the Kid Suite”), alongside RHSO commission – “Champions Come to Rock Hill” and the world premiere of a new work for Flute and Orchestra by Jeremy Lamb, featuring Victor Wang, Principal Flute of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra.
Victor Wang joined the Charlotte Symphony as principal flute in 2016, and he has since been regularly featured as a soloist with the orchestra. In the 2017 National Flute Association's Young Artist Competition, Victor received First Prize as well as the Philip Dikeman Prize for best performance of the newly commissioned work.
His orchestral work outside of the Charlotte Symphony has included concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, and The Orchestra Now. During the summers, Victor has performed at the Tanglewood, Colorado College, Texas, Atlantic, Norfolk, and Bard music festivals.
Victor is a graduate of Yale University, where he received a Master of Music in flute performance and a Bachelor of Sciences in biology. His mentors include Elizabeth Mann, Ransom Wilson, and Lorna McGhee. Originally from Rochester, New York, Victor began his flute studies at the Eastman Community Music School, where he studied with Sophia Gibbs Kim.
